Method C: The Heating Pad or Hot Towel Wrap (Best for Tight Spaces)
Open the faucets connected to the frozen drain. This relieves pressure within the system and allows melting water to escape, accelerating the thawing process.
Pour half a cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by one cup of vinegar.
Call a plumber if:
Wrap a household heating pad or specialized electrical pipe heat tape around the frozen section. Plug it into a grounded outlet.
Stay warm and good luck
Heat tape or heat cable
: Turn on the faucet connected to the frozen drain. This relieves pressure and allows melting water to escape as you work.
Keep the heat moving; do not hold it on one spot for too long, or you could damage plastic pipes (PVC).
Boil a pot of water and let it cool slightly (boiling water can crack porcelain sinks or damage thin PVC joints). Pour the hot water directly down the drain.
