While originally a web series and DVD-exclusive release, all five seasons, including Staffel 5, are available for streaming on the Austrian platform
"Horvathslos" has always been a phenomenon that thrives outside traditional media, achieving cult status without ever airing on television. Its humor is described as "legendär" (legendary), "zart-brutal" (tender-brutal), and "zynisch" (cynical). The series unapologetically takes aim at Austrian docusoaps and societal norms with its signature black humor and sharp-witted dialogue.
For many years, it seemed that the saga of "Horvathslos" was truly over. Then, in early 2026, a major announcement was made: a sixth season of "Horvathslos" was set to premiere on the streaming platform joyn.at and on TV, bringing the series to a mainstream audience for the first time. The announcement was met with great excitement, with social media channels promoting the new season for an April 12 release.
Der Übergang zur Moderne: Von der DVD zum Streaming-Frühling 2026
To understand the significance of the fifth season, it's helpful to revisit the series' core concept. "Horvathslos" is a satirical "Mockumentary" and Dokuserien-Satire (docu-series satire) created by the Austrian duo Christopher Seiler and Bernhard Speer. The show first found fame as a web series on YouTube and Facebook starting in 2013, before the creators became known as the music duo Seiler & Speer. The series cleverly parodies the tropes of reality TV by following a fictional documentary crew as they trail the perpetually unemployed and thirsty protagonist, Anton Horvath (played by Christopher Seiler). Every attempt at a peaceful day for Horvath typically descends into a chaotic disaster, offering a brutally funny critique of Austrian society.
, it was initially intended to be the final season of the series. Series Overview
To appreciate the fifth season, one must understand the series' origins. "Horvathslos" began as a satirical webseries in 2013, created by Kabarettist Christopher Seiler and producer Bernhard Speer. It quickly gained a cult following on YouTube and Facebook for its sharp-tongued, hyper-realistic mockumentary style. At its heart is Anton Horvath, a perpetually unemployed drunkard played by Seiler, whose mishaps are captured by a documentary crew led by Speer. The series is a parody of Austrian reality TV, portraying "an unemployed drunkard as he navigates his daily life" in all its disastrous glory. The show's success even spawned the popular music duo Seiler und Speer, who started by creating the series' soundtrack.
